We’ve been thinking CP#1 and CP #2 might enjoy sharing a room, which means painting, buying new bunk beds and moving copious amounts of stuff around. The work is enough to make us feel tired just thinking about it.
Thankfully Maine is chock full of talented artists and designers to provide inspiration. We adore the bright colors Yarmouth artist Alison Bramhall selected for her Destinations Down East poster, which features an alphabet of fun illustrations. Plus it’s hard to resist artwork that boasts an eagle wearing earmuffs flying over Eggemoggin Reach (try saying that 10 times fast).
Alison spent over a year brainstorming each frame of the poster, making sure the letters highlighted something unique to Maine. The piece also offers an alphabet of well-researched facts. For example, did you know Maine has a coastline stretching 3500 miles when a person goes in and out of all the harbors? That’s longer than the state of California. Yowza.
We’re such fans of Alison’s work, we decided why not give away a poster? All you have to do is tell us your favorite place to find kids furniture, art, bedding or fun room accessories in Maine. One winner will be selected at random. Contest ends Tuesday, April 19. Good luck!

Favorite place to find kids’ fun room accessories ~ besides thrift shops…upstairs @ Seasons in Windham.
We’ve had great luck with furniture from Tiny Totland on Western Ave in SoPo. Looking forward to reading others’ suggestions re: room decor, as we’re somewhat sparse in that department.
I love Sign of the Sun in Waterville. Super cool for kids and grown-ups alike!
I hope this isn’t terrible: yardsales! 🙂
Where can we get the poster??

We spotted it at Royal River Books in Yarmouth, but you can also order it directly from Alison: http://www.festivefish.net/
We do most of our kids shopping at thrift stores or on Etsy. I also love Tinsel Bright in Gorham!
I love going to the summer festivals and looking thru the vendors to find something unusual. For furniture, we get the basics from Vigues in Brunswick and then finish it ourselves.
We shop mostly at consignment stores – I’ve had great luck with Lots for Tots in Falmouth! Also, I’ve found some great things at Mardens!
The Yarmouth Clam Festival!

I love going to Home Goods and finding little things to add her room.
I love, love, love for shopping for my kids rooms! We moved into a new home and I always peruse places to make our new home feel special for my two daughters (ages 1 and 3). I find amazing deals and ideas at Target in Augusta or Target.com. I’ve decorated my oldest daughter’s bedroom from pillows to walls and we always have a lot of fun there. Now, I’m beginning my baby’s room…. 🙂
Etsy is my favorite – such unique, arty stuff!
We always have great luck at Tiny Totland – fantastic customer service!
When we were decorating my daughters room, we had good luck with LLBean for kids furniture. I am still looking for cute (purple!) things to go on the wall though… looking forward to seeing what others suggest.
We just found a gorgeous — and super-inexpensive — new crib at Hands of Hope thrift shop in Bangor. All proceeds benefit breast cancer research and community outreach, and their kids’ furniture is wonderful.
I adore that poster!!
We’ve had excellent luck with The Growing Place (on Hammond St. or Broadway in Bangor) consignment shops, especially for clothes or baby items you need but won’t use for very long. Everything we’ve purchased has been in good to like-new condition and so much less expensive than retail!
