Our Favorite Farm Stands: Wealden Farm

If you live in Maine, a sunny, 60º November day is something to savor. And if you’re like MP, the beautiful weather makes for a perfect excuse to visit a favorite farm stand like Wealden Farm in Freeport.

This time of year, the farm offers pumpkins, several varieties of apples, root vegetables, and gourds. You can also find a fine selection of local cheeses, cider, honey, and Rosemont Market breads.

CP#1 and I admired the colorful, handmade knit scarves and mittens on display outside, but we were happy to be free of winter gear for the day. We chose a few of DP’s favorite apples (Macouns), selected a few gourds for decoration, and picked up some carrots for our favorite chicken stew.

MP also had her eye on a gorgeous painting, called Cameron and Carrots, from Freeport artist, Laurie Hadlock. What an unexpected surprise to discover such lovely artwork at a farm stand!

As for CP#1, she loved the shapes, sizes, and colors of the gourds. If it were possible, she would have taken home this gargantuan, green gourd in the background…

What’s also great? The farm is close to Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park and Leon Gorman Park—two fun places to explore on a gorgeous November morning!
