If your family happens to be in Kennebunkport, and you find yourselves exploring Dock Square, we recommend going directly to Daytrip Jr. The inviting shop is a Cute Potato favorite. When MP visits, she can’t help but think of A Christmas Story, when Ralphie and friends have their noses pressed against the glass at Higbee’s Department Store window, gaping in awe at its marvelous contents.
Jessica Jenkins, who owns Daytrip Jr. with her husband Andy, works along with her staff to get the seasonal theme of the store just right. For summer, the tiny shop is filled with wooden boats, tin pails, colorful croquet sets, hula-hoops, and Radio Flyer scooters. It’s nearly impossible to leave without something in hand.
MP loves that Daytrip Jr. sells so many of her favorite Maine made items. She spotted wooden toys from a Different Drummer, Erin Flett’s colorful pillows, picture books by local authors, and a gorgeous fairy house kit from Liza Gardner Walsh (to name a few).
Daytrip Jr. also carries some unique children’s clothing and accessories. In fact, Jessica hopes to add more clothing to the shop in the future. There’s no better place to find a cool, Maine-themed tee or handmade dresses for summer parties.
The best thing about Daytrip Jr.? Take a look to the right. They’re now among our fabulous sponsors!
