Easter Gifts from Maineland Design Co.

With Easter only two weeks away, MP has gift-giving on her mind. Enter our newest sponsor, Maineland Design Co., an online shop created by South Portland artist Andy Rosen, his childhood friend Luke Myers and curator Kim Myers. Their playful gift collection is a perfect balance of classic and modern design that suits all ages. Following are a few favorites:

Rock Blocks
A cool update on traditional wooden blocks, Maineland rock blocks were inspired by a seven-foot bear sculpture that Rosen created using found materials from the Community Recycling Center in Scarborough (the sculpture later appeared at the deCordova Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA). The lightweight blocks, which come in muted, earth tones, have notched grooves for stacking and balancing. CP#2 uses them to create rock walls and makeshift buildings for his Star Wars figures. The 30-piece set comes in a lobster bait bag with a drawstring, so kids can take their blocks anywhere.

Enamel Steel Tumblers
MP loves the vintage feel of these tumblers. Sold in sets of two, the sturdy tumblers can be used for smart-looking storage or as a kid-safe drinking glass (our crew uses them as a water glasses for the bathroom, so there’s no fear of them falling and breaking on the tile floor). The whimsical blue and white rabbit design is perfect for spring.

Cotton Handkerchief
For family-gatherings, we try to dress up a little. This printed cotton hanky makes a great gift for Dads (our own DP is planning to sport one for Easter Sunday). Best of all, it’s easily washable.
