Our family last visited Acadia National Park in 2009 when the kids were just two- and three-years old. At the time, we explored the Schoodic Peninsula — a lesser known entrance to the park, where a 6-mile loop treated us to spectacular views of lighthouses and forested islands. The visit was a quiet way to introduce our young family to …
Family Camping Adventures Part 2: Moosehead Lake
When our travel plans changed in Canada, we decided to return to Maine and explore Moosehead Lake. DP and MP had never been to the area before. Little did we know how much we were about to discover! During our first night in Moosehead, we decided to take a camping hiatus and found ourselves an affordable place to stay in …
Weekend Trip to Biddeford Pool Audubon
Last weekend, we visited the East Point Sanctuary in Biddeford Pool. The sanctuary, which was donated to the Maine Audubon in the late seventies, is tucked away, but once we spotted cars parked on the road, we knew our destination couldn’t be far. Our team followed a short, woodland trail that parallels the Abenakee golf course. The trail opens to green …
Bresca & the Honey Bee on Outlet Beach
Update: While Bresca & the Honey Bee no longer serve food at the beach, families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. Ice cream is still available. If you return to the area in the fall, be sure to check out The Purple House in North Yarmouth, a lovely cafe serving breakfast and lunch. Bresca was MP’s favorite restaurant in …
Kettle Cove
After two back-to-back travel weekends, our family decided to start a new summer tradition: Saturday morning breakfasts at a local beach. DP packed hard-boiled eggs, coffee, juice, croissants, and homemade strawberry jam. By 9:00 a.m., all of us were in bathing suits and ready to go. We decided to visit one of our favorite spots: Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth. …

The second installment of our Maine Insider video is on visitmaine.com! The video highlights our visit to Popham Beach and Fort Popham in Phippsburg, and MP talks about some of our favorite festivals throughout the summer and early fall. You can view the video here:
Suddenly, Last Summer: Becoming Maine Insiders
On this sunny March Friday, with the promise of warmer days ahead, it’s nice to recall last summer. A highlight of our August was filming a short piece as Maine Insiders for the Maine Department of Tourism. The two-day shoot took us from Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park in Freeport to Popham Beach and all of our favorite places in …
Family Getaway: Kezar Lake
The Cute Potato team took a much-needed break from our busy summer and traveled to Lovell, Maine. The small town is home to Kezar Lake, a sparkling, 9-mile long body of water surrounded by the western Maine hills and views of the White Mountains.
Pirate Play at Winslow Park
We’re traveling this week, but MP has been thinking about some special things to do when we return. Not long ago, we discovered this beautiful new pirate ship at Winslow Park in Freeport. The tremendous, wooden play structure is designed for hours of imaginative play. From the bow of the ship, kids have a wonderful view of Casco Bay.
