Mom Made It! Homemade Cakes

CP#1 wanted a Hello Kitty themed party for her fifth birthday. To help create a memorable cake, MP enlisted Cathy Ducey, baker and owner of Mom Made It! in Scarborough. Cathy, who makes everything from scratch in her home kitchen, was kind enough to let MP bring some gluten-free ingredients to make CP #1 a rich, chocolate layer cake.

Erin Flett Pillows

While flipping through an old notebook, MP came across a list of highlights from Portland’s Picnic Art + Music Festival. She was thrilled to re-discover Erin Flett’s business card taped to one of its pages. The accomplished, Gorham designer makes colorful pillows—each featuring an original screen print on vintage reproduction bark cloth. What MP didn’t realize then is Erin also makes …

F is for Fabulous: Finny and Zook

MP worries that she spends one minute too many on Facebook. However, every once and awhile she discovers something that makes the time well spent. Case in point: these fun alphabet prints from Portland’s Finny and Zook. Designer Karen Zutkowski—whose friends call her Zook—wanted bold, colorful flash card designs for her son Finn’s room. When she couldn’t find a design …

Elves & Angels Wooden Toys

While flipping through Mothering magazine, MP came across one of the loveliest wooden play kitchens she’s ever seen. Seriously. Not even the likes of Pottery Barn or Land of Nod could compete with Christina’s kitchen, made by Elves & Angels Wooden Toys in the tiny village of Wytopitlock Maine. Owner and toymaker David Smalley has been designing beautiful wooden toys …
